Disguise
In this image I can see many interesting things that the photographer has included in the image, for example the use of the plain white background, the background makes it calm and makes the photo simplistic, although the photographer adds in a wood panel in the bottom left corner leaning against a wall it draws the attention away, this along with the other objects in the bottom left corner such as the red wire and the white lump of stone, it adds a sense of chaos to that bottom corner of the image, I find this interesting because i'am imagining this image without, these props in the corner the image would be so much blander, but if you use your hand to cover one half of the image it is chaos but the other half is calm and relaxed. The focus of the image is the photoshopped person sitting down on a wooden chair with their face disrupted with what looks to be liquify on photo pea, there is so much space between the persons facial features, the photographer shines artificial light on this person drawing attention to them but there may be a meaning behind this, the photographer also place a light blue jacket on the person this blue jacket has lot's of texture and two different shades of colour dark blue to light blue, this draws the attention away from the person, maybe the artist uses light, props and texture to show insecurity, and how people try and hide themselves away, there are many fine lines in the background but in the centre the focus there is only round shapes, I think the photographer does this to again show insecurity and how people draw attention away.
Overall what I can see in this image are many little things that the photographer does to represent different emotions and insecurities, I see chaos and I see calm, the image is very two sided.
It is a photograph from the genre of portraiture, but no I do not think it upsets our expectations, no matter what kind of person, portraiture is beautiful. For example there are many portraits like

Which are considered the best and perfect portraits but there are other portraits for example
Portraiture can come in many different forms they can have many different meanings, so I do not think there is an upset in our expectations when we see the image of disguise, there are no qualities or exciting features we want in portraits because there are no limits if you want an image that represents insecurity, then people will won't mind, although you could argue that the other two portraits, "The Mona Lisa" and "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" are more known I don't see it that way I think there are. no expectations because different people will like different images there is no disappointment, maybe the other two will be well known as well some day.
I think Lucas Blalock created the image to again show insecurity in the modern world people try hide themselves away, and as I said earlier Lucas Blalock uses a number of different methods to draw attention away, this mirrors what people do in real life, the more I look at this image the more I understand it he uses distractions, clothing, even destroying the face top draw thew attention away, even the floor draws your eyes away, the hands, all of these, Blalock even goes the length of getting rid of the shadow of the person because this could represent how they want to hide themselves away. To actually make the image Lucas Blalock must have painted the wall I can infer this because of the paint dripping down on the floor, he must have rented a room painted the floor and brought a brand new chair I can infer this because the chair has a tag on it, and it must have been a lot of effort get the props needed for the chaos in the bottom left hand corner, he must have also used a technique with the artificial light to bring the most out of the colour of the jacket as the light almost reflects. If I were to make this image, I would do it in a chaotic place because I would take the theme of insecurity and then act on it. drawing attention away drawing emotion in I would like Lucas Balock use photo pea I would use a variety of different filters and liquify.
This picture makes me feel almost moved, I haven't really looked at an image as long as this one before, and the more I look at it the more I understand it, all though the photographer put this image in his worst fails, I really don't see it that way. It gives me a sense of chaos but slo a sense of calmness, it gives you are feeling of insecurity doubt fear, but it make you understand.
I would ask the artist:
How he came up with the idea?
I would ask this question because I would like to know how and why he created this image, this would give me lot's of information to how a photographer thinks, how they come up with an idea and I could take tips from this.
Why did he use photo pea?
Do professional photographers always use photo pea. Why do they do it.
What is his meaning behind the image?
Does he mean for it to represent insecurity. What was the original meaning for it.
From research I have learnt that intentional photoshop fails are anything but low art, it elevates the chaos. I now understand the process of Lucas Blalocks's work he intentionally does portraits, that would be considered bad but they are not poor quality low art it is anything but that again proving my point earlier about how expectations don't matter. He see's his photos as chaos, different people view photographs in different ways.
In the theme of Disguise masks are common but Blalock uses photoshop to edit faces he is covering up, he even goes as far as removing the shadow, Blalock uses the theme of Disguise not to be secret or undercover, he uses it to represent people who just simply do not want to be here.

When taking these images I was inspired by the disguise photo if you look closely I have made many different references to the photo, I have taken the theme of hiding features and covering things and blurring them out. I also used photo pea to edit the photos this is what blalock did as well he used liquify and so did I. I used a variety of different photos from close up to a long range. You can see in some of the photographs I'm doing the arm cradle which the person did in the Blalock image.
These I would say are my best photographs for my mock assessment, this is because in these photos there is a common theme of disguise and covering which was my main objective you can see in many of these photographs I use household object like pens and sellotape as the disguise, I used chaotic backgrounds in some photos where I have no props to draw the attention away yet in simple backgrounds I use props. I would say these are my best photographs because I thought long and hard about the position of the photos, I needed to be creative to make the photos stand out and be the best they possibly could be.
